Tanvir Ahmed
I design buildings for this climate, not for a magazine. Shade, air and light come first.
I am an architect in Dhaka. I design homes, offices and small commercial buildings, from the first sketch to the last site visit.

How I work
Dhaka is hot, wet and loud. A building that ignores that needs air conditioning running all day. I start with where the sun falls and where the air moves, and the shape of the building follows from there.
I listen for an hour before I draw anything. Every drawing that leaves my studio has a signature on it, and I visit every site myself.

Questions
How long does a design take?
A family home takes about three months from first meeting to a drawing you can build from.
Do you handle the building permit?
Yes. I prepare the drawings and the paperwork for the city authority and follow it through.
Can you work with my own builder?
Yes. I will visit the site on the days that matter and check the work against the drawing.
